UPI has the family and small miner in mind and is a corporation that is proud of the camaraderie shared among its members. The membership includes the very young to the very mature. As a member you can mine or camp on any of our claims any time you wish limited only by the current mining and camping rules that are found in our guidebook. All but two of UPI's claims, (280 acres really out in the woods), have ample camping area, and will accommodate large groups. Outings have been averaging about 50 members and guests. All sites excepting the 160-acre site are RV accessible. Size limitation applies to some. For those sites with RV size limitation there is usually private RV camping, with hook-ups, close by for a small fee.

There are 5-10 organized outings scheduled each year at our various claim sites. Each outing is scheduled around a weekend. In addition to mining there is a board meeting held (when scheduled) where all members are encouraged to attend and participate. At the outings, Saturday evening is reserved for the traditional potluck dinner and raffle. At this event you have the chance of winning some great gold recovery equipment as well as gift certificates and other items including a 1-2 pennyweight gold nugget.

UPI publishes a handbook containing maps and directions to our claims and 6-8 issues of its newsletter. It contains pictures of you out there mining, the raffles and potlucks, and commentary on the outing and small mining activities, along with quips from the "Old Miner". You're cost, just $45.00 a year. This is about the price of a night out at a fast food restaurant and theater ticket for two.

Jack Douglas, known as "the Old Miner", first organized UPI in 1947.  UPI was incorporated in 1949 in time for the California Gold Rush Centennial and has been in existence ever since, (60+ years).  Little did the original founders realize that UPI would grow to be the oldest gold, gems and minerals prospecting corporation of its kind.
